A woman from Pensacola has been taken into custody by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. She is facing charges related to child abuse, neglect, and drug possession, as stated in the arrest report.
A 29-year-old woman named Shaquanda Shernicia Wesley has been taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including child neglect, cruelty toward a child, possession of marijuana, possession of drugs, obstructing justice, and larceny.
Deputies were summoned to a store on Davis Highway on Aug. 9 in response to an EMS call, according to the arrest report.
Upon the arrival of deputies, Wesley was discovered to be under the influence and in the presence of a child. According to the report, she had entrusted the child to a stranger after nearly losing her grip on it.
Deputies received a call to Fairfield Inn, where they subsequently asked Wesley and the baby to vacate their room, as stated in the release.
According to a statement, Wesley entered the inn and allegedly posed a threat to another woman while holding the baby in a manner that restricted its breathing.
Authorities later located Wesley at a different hotel and conducted a search, during which they discovered a small bag of marijuana, as well as a bag containing a blue powder residue that was confirmed to be fentanyl. Additionally, they found a clear bag containing a pill shaped like a bar, which was identified as Xanax, according to the statement.
Wesley reportedly lost consciousness while in the patrol car and received two doses of Narcan. Additionally, a white bag containing fentanyl was discovered inside the patrol car, as stated in the release.
After being taken to the hospital for medical clearance, she was then transported to the jail.
