Woman Arrested after Inflicting Severe Injuries to Toddlers Attending Her Mother’s Daycare in Wisconsin

On Tuesday, Olivia and Crystall Hafemann faced a misdemeanor charge in Washington County Circuit Court related to alleged abuse at the Forever Friends Learning Center in Kewaskum.

Crystall Hafemann, 43, who is the mother of Olivia and operates a daycare, faces a misdemeanor charge for not reporting child abuse or neglect. This charge could result in a penalty of up to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, or both.

Olivia Hafemann, 20, faces a misdemeanor charge for battery, potentially resulting in up to nine months in jail, fines reaching $10,000, or both, as per court documents.

Two individuals faced charges after an inquiry into suspected mistreatment at the Forever Friends Learning Center in July.

A Kewaskum Police officer was dispatched to the facility on July 23, where he met with a supervisor from Child Protective Services (CPS), as stated in the criminal complaint. An employee at the center was then interviewed by the pair, who reported Olivia’s behavior to CPS. The employee reported witnessing Olivia Hafemann acting inappropriately and aggressively towards the children they were responsible for. She mentioned that she has often raised concerns about Olivia’s behavior, yet no action has been taken, according to the complaint. “The employee expressed that she felt it was her duty to inform Child Protective Services about the behavior.”

A witness recounted an event that took place at the center roughly two months ago.

“(The employee) stated that she observed a mark on the stomach of a 2 year old child, ‘victim,’ that was being cared for at the facility,” the complaint said. “(The employee) stated that she asked victim what caused the mark and victim stated, ’Ms. Olivia pushed me.’” According to the complaint, the incident was a result of the victim not liking her snack that day.

“(The employee) stated that during snack time the children sit at a table and eat. (She) stated that on the day of this offense victim did not like her snack and began standing up at which time Olivia Hafemann forcibly sat victim down into the chair, pushed the chair toward the table and kicked the chair toward the table causing VICTIM’s stomach to strike the table,” the complaint said. The employee took the victim to the office to speak with Crystall, who “stated that the mark on victim’s stomach was a rash and further stated that the rash had been present prior to Olivia Hafemann being accused of pushing victim.”

Authorities later interviewed the mother of the victim regarding the event. The mother observed the marks on her child during bath time after the incident, as stated in the complaint.

The mother reached out to Crystall through a Facebook message to discuss what had occurred with her daughter.

A mother and daughter are scheduled to appear in Branch 4 of the Washington County Circuit Court at 8:15 a.m. on December 2.
