Woman Accused of Fatally Stabbing Her Mother in Recliner as Brother Witnessed Attack

A 44-year-old woman from Ohio has been taken into custody for the suspected murder of her mother, who was reportedly fatally stabbed while seated in a recliner at the age of 72.

Mekeshia Lattimore was arrested on Thursday and faces a murder charge in connection with the death of Minnie Lewis, according to officials.

Middletown Division of Police reported that officers responded to an emergency call about a stabbing at a residence in the 600 block of 14th Avenue on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at approximately 11:24 p.m. The residence is located approximately 30 miles north of Cincinnati, Ohio.

First responders arrived at the scene and found an adult female victim, later identified as Lewis, with multiple stab wounds. Lewis was quickly taken to the Atrium Medical Center by emergency medical personnel for treatment. She passed away from her injuries shortly after reaching the facility.

Authorities swiftly pinpointed Lattimore, the daughter of Lewis, as the alleged attacker. Lattimore stayed at the 14th Avenue residence after the stabbing and was quickly arrested and charged with murder.

Lattimore was taken into custody at the Middletown City Jail, where she stayed detained as of Friday morning.

A recent affidavit acquired by the Journal-News sheds light on the details surrounding Lewis’ death.

A report indicates that Lewis’ son was present at the home during the incident and saw his sister stab their mother.

The brother informed investigators that he witnessed Lattimore positioned “over the top of the victim while the victim was seated in a recliner” and then noticed his sister’s “hand and arm making a stabbing motion toward the victim,” as stated in the police affidavit. Lewis’ son reported that he shouted at Lattimore to stop bothering their mother as he approached her and noticed blood on the victim’s neck.

The son called 911 to report a stabbing, informing the dispatcher that his sister was the attacker and was still inside their home, according to Fox affiliate WXIX in Newport, Kentucky. The station received the recordings of the 911 call, but stated they were “too audibly graphic” for television broadcast.

Lewis was said to have sustained stab wounds to the face, neck, and head. No details have been provided by the police about a potential motive.

After her arrest, Lattimore allegedly declined to communicate with police investigators. She is set to appear in court on Friday afternoon.
