A Provo woman has been arrested and is now in custody at the Utah County Jail. She is being investigated for 76 felony crimes related to the sexual abuse of her 10-year-old daughter. Authorities report that a man allegedly made multiple payments to the mother in exchange for sexually abusing the girl.
Authorities have apprehended a 38-year-old woman on Wednesday on multiple serious charges related to child exploitation and abuse. The charges include human trafficking of a child, aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and sodomy on a child. An investigation was initiated on Wednesday after Provo police received a tip regarding a disturbing incident. According to a police booking affidavit, the tip alleged that a woman was sharing videos on Kik that depicted her engaging in sexual abuse of her own young daughter. Investigators successfully identified the woman and executed a search warrant at her residence.
During police questioning, the woman reportedly confessed to sending explicit videos of herself and a young girl to a man.
“(She) said that he makes her do it and threatens her by saying something along the lines of ‘he’ll do what he needs to do.’ (The woman) stated that he’s never made any explicit threats. (She) told me that she’s been taking pictures and videos of the victim for years for (the man),” according to the affidavit. “(The woman) said that she wanted positive attention from someone that wasn’t bullying.”
A Provo woman has confessed to having multiple in-person encounters with a man over a span of five to six years. Shockingly, during each encounter, the man subjected the girl to sexual assault, as stated in the affidavit. The woman informed the authorities that the man would provide gifts and treats in exchange for sexual acts. (She) also mentioned that he would occasionally provide her with additional funds to cover the cost of hotel rooms for both of them.
According to the affidavit, the woman alleged that the man sexually abused the girl on Tuesday at a hotel in Springville, while the mother was present in the room. A man reportedly provided a woman with a laptop and $125 in exchange for permission to harm a child.
According to the police, there were a series of 41 transactions between the woman and the buyer, with one instance where she mentioned that he paid in cash.
The investigation into the man accused of paying to abuse the girl is still ongoing as of Thursday.
