The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday near milepost 90, about three miles east of the Suttle Lake Loop intersection and west of Sisters, prompting a full closure of the highway.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) advised motorists via TripCheck that all lanes were blocked, leading to significant traffic backups.

Video from the scene showed first responders searching in the brush along the highway as vehicles waited in both directions for the road to reopen.

Driver Lost Control in Heavy Rain

According to OSP, the crash happened when the driver of an eastbound pickup truck lost control on the wet roadway, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on the westbound shoulder.

The driver, who was not identified, was taken to St. Charles Bend with minor injuries. Troopers cited him for driving with a suspended license.

Investigators said that heavy rains and speed were contributing factors in the crash.
