Honk News (Dubuque, IA) – Iowa authorities report that a 1-year-old boy fell into a bucket of bleach water and lost consciousness after being submerged for a significant period.
Scott Marcov, 30, and Madelyn Marcov, 28, are facing charges of neglecting a dependent person and child endangerment that resulted in serious injury, as stated in court records.
A family incident took place at their home in Dubuque on October 1. A criminal complaint from the Dubuque Police Department reveals that one of the Marcov children rushed into the living room, holding the infant and shouting that he was unconscious. According to the affidavit, he had been in the bleach water for a period that was not specified. Madelyn Marcov dialed 911.
Emergency responders quickly arrived and took the boy to the hospital. He was said to have experienced severe breathing difficulties and became unconscious. Doctors at Finley Hospital provided treatment for the boy before moving him to the University of Iowa hospital for more specialized care.
Investigators found out that Scott Marcov was in the kitchen while his wife was in the living room when the boy accidentally fell into the bucket in the kitchen, according to the affidavit. Police secured a search warrant to gather evidence. Investigators observed that the house was in a state of complete disarray. Trash was scattered all over the house.
“Officers observed mice moving around, a dead mouse on the floor in the kitchen, garbage, and food all over all over the floor and countertops,” cops wrote.
A cooking pot on the kitchen counter contained a dirty diaper, as stated in the arrest report.
The Marcovs have an infant along with two other children who are 6 and 4 years old, according to the affidavit.
After more than four months of investigation, detectives arrested the parents on Tuesday. Both individuals posted a bond of $20,000. The complaint did not provide an update on the boy’s condition.
