A Miami Uber driver is confronting serious legal troubles after allegedly halting a ride with two 17-year-old girls and inappropriately touching one of them in a Coconut Grove parking lot, as reported by law enforcement.
Kerry Cadet, 30, from Little Haiti, was taken into custody by Miami police on Wednesday. An arrest report reveals that the event took place around 1 a.m. on September 8, following Cadet’s pickup of two teenagers from a party in Wynwood.
Officials reported that while Cadet was transporting the girls to a residence, he inquired if they would like to make a stop for food, to which both responded with a “maybe later.”
The report indicates that Cadet inquired whether they wished to end the ride on the application, and before they could respond, he concluded the ride.
Authorities reported that he drove into an unoccupied parking area at 2150 S. Dixie Highway, leaned back in his seat, inquired if he could join the girls in the back seat, and subsequently entered the rear of the vehicle.
The report reveals that Cadet inquired of the girls whether they are capable of dancing. Authorities reported that one individual responded, “No, look at my legs” while making contact with her thigh.
A cadet allegedly touched another girl inappropriately, according to police reports; she instructed her friend to reach out to someone else.
Officials reported that as the other girl exited to contact her friend, Cadet “pinched (the) nipple” of the 17-year-old who remained in the vehicle.
The report indicates that the girl informed the police she advised her friend to “return to the car to avoid being touched by him.”
Authorities reported that her companion received another call and exited the vehicle. The document indicates that Cadet subsequently made contact with the girl, placing his hand “inside her pants.”
Officials reported that surveillance footage captures Cadet entering the rear seat.
According to the report, surveillance footage from the scene shows the car entering the vacant parking area, with a man getting out of the driver’s seat and moving to the back driver’s side door. “The second individual is then observed leaving the vehicle and coming back inside.” Victim #2 is observed leaving the vehicle once more, and while she is engaged on the phone, Victim #1 also steps out of the vehicle. The two individuals enter the vehicle, and the male exits from the back seat, returns to the driver’s seat, and drives away.
On Wednesday afternoon, police reported that detectives in Miami found Cadet during a traffic stop in Allapattah. Officials reported discovering over 40 grams of marijuana and a scale in his backpack.
Officials reported that he refuted the allegations of having any physical contact with the girls.
A judge determined on Thursday that there was sufficient reason to bring charges against Cadet for kidnapping, inappropriate touching of minors, interference with custody, possession of over 20 grams of cannabis, intent to sell, and a misdemeanor battery charge.
The court has mandated that he stay incarcerated without the possibility of bail.
The individual was in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of late Thursday morning, according to jail records.
