Twin machete attack in downtown Los Angeles left one dead and one injured

Police captured the guy suspected of carrying out multiple machete attacks, one of which was fatal, in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning.

The Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA that the first call came in at 12:17 a.m., describing a grisly machete attack at 11th Street and South Grand Avenue.

Officers came to find a man, apparently in his 60s, with stab wounds caused by a machete strike.

Paramedics transported the unidentified man to a local hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

While LAPD officers were investigating this situation, the agency received another call reporting a “ambulance cutting” at a different site. LAPD was unable to confirm the time when this call was made.

Officers responded to found a second person with stab wounds from a machete along Broadway Street and Olympic Boulevard. The victim was described as a male of approximately 35 years old.

Paramedics took this sufferer to a nearby hospital, where he was last reported to be stable.

Details are limited; officials did not immediately reveal how many stab wounds the victims sustained or where they were struck on their bodies.

Officers on the site of the second stabbing received information on a potential suspect.

During a check of the neighborhood, police discovered the suspect and the machete said to have been used in both attacks.

An LAPD official stated they couldn’t say where the suspect was apprehended. In an X post at 10:16 a.m., the department’s Central Division stated, “Several different crime scenes were established, and we thank the community for their patience.”

The suspect’s identity was not revealed, but officials said he was most likely in his 20s or 30s and stood about 6 feet 2 inches tall.

LAPD did not have more information regarding charges as of Sunday afternoon.
