Honk News (Philadelphia, PA) – A woman has died in Philadelphia after a strong wind gust knocked down a tree that fell on her car Sunday night, as winds reaching 60 mph continue to affect the Northeast.
A tree fell onto a gray Honda Accord occupied by a woman in northeast Philadelphia.
Firefighters worked to clear the large tree from the vehicle, and unfortunately, the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Weather experts have indicated that powerful winds are expected to continue into Monday night across a large portion of the East Coast and Northeast.
“Much of that region has the threat to see wind gusts anywhere from up to 50 to 60 miles per hour,” Fox Forecast Center meteorologist reported.
According to Braud, the strong western winds are expected to continue throughout most of the day, although the intense gusts will occur less often.

“They are very occasional and it’s all due to the storm that moved through yesterday,” Braud said, noting that as the storm left, it brought colder air into the region.

The cold wind chill in New York City will keep temperatures feeling like they’re in the low 20s throughout the day.
“That cold air is above the surface, it’s very dense, and it’s racing toward the surface so you’re getting this resurgence of cold air that’s wanting to quickly move to the ground, and that’s why we’re seeing these high winds today,” he explained.
By early Monday, the National Weather Service reported that areas in Long Island, Connecticut, and Westchester County experienced wind gusts ranging from 40 to almost 60 miles per hour.
Expect west winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph in those areas, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. A wind advisory is set to last until 6 p.m. on Monday.
