San Antonio, TX – A woman has been taken into custody in Texas following allegations that she gave birth in the restroom of a 24-hour fast food establishment and abandoned the deceased infant in the toilet.
Mallori Patrice Strait is currently in custody at Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, facing a charge related to the abuse of a corpse, with a bond set at $100,000. As reported by a local CBS affiliate, staff at a Whataburger located at the intersection of FM 78 and Walzem Road informed authorities that a woman entered the establishment shortly after midnight on Thursday.
According to reports, she allegedly confined herself to the bathroom at approximately 2 a.m. and remained there for several hours. The manager reported that the woman was audible making various sounds.
Staff provided her with water and extended their assistance. Nevertheless, it has been reported that she refused to depart. Ultimately, they decided to contact emergency services to ensure the woman’s safety. Authorities from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded and took the woman into custody.
Emergency responders arrived at the dining establishment and allegedly discovered “human-like material in the restroom.”
An affidavit reveals that a baby girl was found still in the amniotic sac inside the toilet. Emergency personnel quickly transported the girl and Strait to the medical facility. The girl was declared deceased by the doctors. It has been reported that Strait was approximately 28 to 30 weeks into her pregnancy.
According to the affidavit, the infant girl seemed to have sustained head injuries, indicating that she may have been pushed into the toilet. While being taken to the hospital by first responders, Strait allegedly stated, “I’m sorry, I’m not selfish.”
The cause of death will be established through an autopsy, and if it is found that she inflicted harm on the baby, charges may be escalated.
Texas, like many other states, has implemented a law designed to provide a safe option for parents who find themselves unable to care for their newborns. This law permits parents to leave their infants at designated locations, such as fire stations or hospitals, within a 60-day period without facing any inquiries.
