Authorities in Texas have detained a teacher after she had an alleged “sexual contact” with a student at a house that was still under construction.
The 51-year-old Jennifer Massey is currently in custody on a second-degree felony charge of improper contact between educator and student, as announced on Facebook by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.
At 6 pm on Thursday, Oct. 3, deputies from the Garden Ridge sheriff’s office responded to a call about an individual in a house under construction who was allegedly acting suspiciously.
According to deputies, Massey, an art teacher at Davenport High School, was found on the premises with a minor.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the two individuals engaged in sexual contact,” says the statement.
In a note to parents, Davenport High School Principal Angela Looney announced that Massey had been placed on administrative leave on Friday, Oct. 4.
“The safety and security of our students is one of our highest priorities and a responsibility that we take seriously,” Looney said. “During the hiring process, the district’s human resources department conducts full background checks and criminal history to ensure that classrooms are led by individuals who have every student’s best interest in mind.”
The Comal Independent School District said in a statement: “The district does not condone inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. Ensuring the safety and security of our students is our top priority. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement during their investigation.”
A bond amount has not been set for Massey, who is presently being held at the Comal County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
