Texas Man Sentenced for Molesting Child who was Sent to Another Country after Abuse; Was Jailed after Girl Returned and Reported Abuse

Honk News (Groesbeck, TX) A grand jury in Limestone County has delivered a guilty verdict for a man charged with the sexual abuse of a child.

On June 25, 2021, the Groesbeck Police Department began an investigation into a reported incident involving the sexual assault of a minor. Throughout this inquiry, relatives took the eleven-year-old girl out of the country and stayed there until January 2023.

In February 2023, authorities were alerted that the victim had been brought back to Texas, though her precise whereabouts remained unclear. In March 2023, the department obtained details indicating that the victim had been spotted at a home in Groesbeck. Authorities and officials from Child Protective Services arrived at the home and assumed responsibility for the child. The matter was finally brought before a grand jury.

Joshua Weibye has been indicted and taken into custody. He stayed in custody until the trial commenced.

The proceedings commenced in the 77th District Court of Limestone County on Monday, February 24, 2025. The event wrapped up on Friday, February 28, 2025. A jury has determined that Weibye is guilty of multiple serious offenses, including Sexual Abuse of a Child Continuous involving a victim under the age of 14, classified as a first-degree felony.

Additionally, he faces four counts of Indecency with a Child through Sexual Contact, which are second-degree felonies, as well as a first-degree felony charge for Sexual Assault Prohibited/Purport Spouse.

The Police Department reports that Weibye chose to have their punishment determined by 77th District Judge Amy Ward. The date for this sentencing will be announced later. Weibye remains in custody at the Limestone County Jail as he awaits his sentencing.
