Tekamah Man Arrested on Multiple Drug and Theft Charges After Police Recover Thousands in Stolen Goods

TEKAMAH, Neb. – A 37-year-old Tekamah man is behind bars after police uncovered thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen property and illegal drugs during a search operation last week. The Tekamah Police Department (TPD) confirmed that Kyle McCarty was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a camper located near 11th and J Streets on November 6.

Major Recovery Following Search Warrant

According to officials, the search led to the discovery of numerous stolen items valued in the thousands, along with a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Investigators believe the recovered property is connected to multiple local burglaries that had been reported in recent weeks.

“During the search, officers recovered thousands of dollars in stolen goods,” said a Tekamah Police Department spokesperson. “The investigation revealed connections between these items and several theft cases in the surrounding area.”

McCarty was arrested nearby while riding a bicycle close to the camper being searched. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Charges Filed Against the Suspect

McCarty faces an extensive list of charges, including:

  • Burglary
  • Theft by unlawful taking (multiple counts)
  • Felony possession of stolen property
  • Criminal trespassing (multiple counts)
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

He is currently being held at the Washington County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

“Our officers did an excellent job connecting evidence across several incidents,” TPD officials noted. “This arrest removes a repeat offender from the community and helps return stolen property to its rightful owners.”

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are still cataloguing and processing the recovered items to identify victims and return their belongings. The investigation remains active as police work to determine whether McCarty was acting alone or part of a larger theft network operating in the Tekamah area.

Police have urged residents who may have recently experienced thefts or suspicious activity to contact the Tekamah Police Department with information that may assist in ongoing recovery efforts.

Community Impact

The arrest comes after weeks of reports of property thefts and break-ins throughout Tekamah, leaving residents concerned about community safety. Local officials say the successful search operation highlights the importance of public vigilance and quick reporting of suspicious behavior.

“This kind of cooperative effort between officers and residents makes a huge difference,” police added. “Recovering stolen property and curbing drug activity remains a top priority for our department.”

McCarty’s next court appearance has not yet been scheduled, and further charges could be added pending the outcome of the investigation.
