Teen Players Take Plea Deal in Rape Case in South Dakota; Incident Happened at Baseball Game: Authorities

All the members of the Mitchell Legion Baseball team involved in a serious incident during a tournament last year have now entered their pleas.

Six members of the Post 18 team are now facing charges in adult court following an investigation into two rapes at a Rapid City motel last summer. According to prosecutors, the victims were 16 years old.

Three former members of Mitchell Post 18’s Varsity Legion baseball team made a return to the Pennington County Courthouse on Monday.

Landon Waddel, Hudson Haley, and Karter Sibson have all admitted their guilt in connection with a felony as accessories. Rape charges will be dropped in exchange for their pleas.

The teenagers could potentially face up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for being an accessory to a felony, as it is classified as a class 5 felony.

After the conclusion of the hearings and pleas for the remaining three members involved in the Mitchell Baseball Player trial case, a sentencing date has been set where all six players will be present in court simultaneously.

The State’s Attorney refrained from providing any comments on the ongoing situation, as a gag order remains in effect, even though all 6 individuals have now pleaded guilty.

Monday’s hearing takes place two weeks following the guilty pleas of their former teammates Carter Miller, Payton Mandel, and Lincoln Bates. In addition to their plea agreements, they have also agreed to provide testimony in the cases involving their teammates.

By agreeing to a plea deal on Monday, all six individuals have given up their right to remain silent and their ability to call or confront witnesses as reported by KeloLand News.

The six teenagers will be appearing at the courthouse again on August 13th for their sentencing.

Prosecutors have announced that individuals under the age of 18 are also facing charges in relation to the ongoing rape investigation. Information regarding those cases is being withheld from the public.
