Little River, South Carolina — A 19-year-old has been arrested in Illinois, and investigators say they intend to charge him with a gunshot that injured 11 people following a party boat excursion in South Carolina.
According to Horry County Police, the shooting occurred Sunday night on a pier in Little River following a fight on the boat during the three-hour tour.
The suspect is expected to be charged with multiple charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and officials will seek to extradite him from Lake County, Illinois, to South Carolina, according to police.
The shooting investigation is ongoing, and more persons may face charges, according to investigators.
According to officials, 120 people partied on the boat over the holiday weekend and were leaving from the pier when the incident occurred. Ten persons were wounded by gunshot, predominantly in the lower body, and one was injured by a falling speaker, according to authorities.
Investigators believe only one person fired rounds. They refused to reveal what sparked the altercation on the boat and how it led to the shooting on the pier, as well as what type of weapon was used.
