A man suspected of driving under the influence was shot and killed by police officers on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities received reports at approximately 4:42 p.m. regarding a “potential DUI driver,” as stated in a release from the Brea Police Department. A man was found after driving his vehicle into a wall near the freeway on Lambert Road and the 57 Freeway in Brea, located north of Orange County.
Upon the arrival of officers who surrounded the vehicle, the driver reportedly collided with a police cruiser, as stated by ABC 7.
The driver was contacted by officers. A brief period after, an officer-involved shooting took place,” the news release stated.
The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to Fox LA, the officers who responded to the scene were said to be unharmed.
The Orange County District Attorney’s office is set to investigate the shooting, as stated in the release.
