The guy with the big knife was shot and killed by police Wednesday night after leading them on a chase through Poulsbo, police said.
At about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a Poulsbo police officer tried to pull over a car near Viking Way and Nordic Cove Lane. The driver wouldn’t stop, so police began chasing them. A news report from the Poulsbo Police Department says that deputies from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office came to help.
When the police stopped the car, they went up to the driver, who they said had a big knife on them. Police said the suspect wouldn’t do what they were told and was a threat to the officers and deputies who were there.
A police chase ends with a cop shooting someone.
The police department said in a release that the suspect continued to pose a deadly threat to officers, even after efforts to de-escalate the situation and the use of non-lethal choices failed. This led to the use of deadly force, which killed the suspect.
During the event, no officers or deputies were hurt.
The suspect’s name has not been made public.
As is usual practice, the officers and deputies involved have been put on administrative leave. It has been taken over by the Office of Independent Investigations (OII) in Washington State to look into what happened.
For several hours, the area between Viking Way and Nordic Cove Lane was closed while police worked on the scene.
More information about what happened, like what happened before the shooting and where the suspect came from, has not been made public. The police haven’t said whether the video from the body camera or the dashcam caught the event.
