Honk News (Orlando, FL) – Authorities announced the successful execution of a major enforcement operation in Orlando, resulting in more than 500 citations and four arrests, as detailed in a recent release.
On February 15, the Florida Highway Patrol collaborated with Orlando police and Orange County deputies to tackle the growing concern surrounding street takeover activities.
Law enforcement from three agencies took action at various sites where street takeover events were occurring, as stated in the release.
In the end, authorities indicated that their attention was directed towards a parking area located at 12981 South Orange Blossom Trail, employing aerial units, unmarked vehicles, K-9 teams, and marked vehicles in their efforts.
A total of 515 traffic citations were reported, with 477 attributed to spectator violations. Furthermore, there were several physical arrests, comprising four felony charges and four misdemeanor charges. Authorities have taken possession of four vehicles, with one of them being identified as stolen and subsequently recovered.
“The achievement of this initiative played a crucial role in reducing immediate threats and showcased a robust, forward-thinking approach to combatting such unlawful actions, underscoring the dedication of state and local law enforcement agencies to collaborate in safeguarding the safety and welfare of the community,” the statement notes in part.
Last year, Sheriff John Mina of Orange County expressed his strong endorsement for legislation that increased penalties for street racing. Last spring, the legislation was officially enacted.
