SSI Recipients to Receive Two Payments in May From Social Security

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get two payments in May, August, October, and December 2025. This trend of changing dates has been going on since February because delivery dates fall on weekends or holidays. Monday, May 1 is when the first payment for May will arrive. On May 30, the payment for June will be brought forward to May 30.

The SSA calendar shows that SSI users will get their money in June and September, even though the money was already given out in May and August. The regular payment for August will come on August 1, and the payment for September will be sent on September 29. The same thing will happen in October, and a second deposit will be due on October 31 to cover November.

In May 2025, who gets two SSI checks?

SSI helps about 7.4 million Americans, and a third of them also get regular Social Security benefits. The second group will get three checks in May, one from Social Security and two from SSI.

People who started getting help before May 1997 will get their money on the third of every month. For everyone else, the times will depend on their birthday.

A person in the United States who gets SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is someone who has little money and resources and meets at least one of these conditions:

People over 65 years old.
People of any age who have a serious disease that keeps them from working.
People who are blind, no matter what age.
To get SSI, you also have to meet certain U.S. citizenship or legal residency standards. Not all immigrants are qualified. Usually, you need to be a U.S. citizen or a certain type of noncitizen who is eligible, like some refugees, asylees, or permanent residents who have worked enough.

The SSI program is not paid for by Social Security taxes; it gets money directly from the U.S. Treasury. Its goal is to help people meet their basic needs, like food, clothes, and a place to live.

For the rest of 2025, the following SSI dates are offered:

  • May 1: Payment for May.
  • May 30: Payment in June.
  • July 1: Payment for July.
  • August 1 and 29: Payments for August and September.
  • October 1 and 31: Payments for October and November.
  • December 1 and 31: December and January 2026 payments.

Every year at the end of the year, you’ll get twelve payments, one for each month. So, as you can see, when there’s a dual payment in one month, there will not be a payment in the upcoming month. And so on until the end of the year in December.

Individuals can get up to $943 a month from Supplemental Security Income (SSI), couples can get up to $1,415 a month, and essential persons can get up to $472 a month. These numbers are based on a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
