SSI Beneficiaries to Receive Double Payment in May 2025 Due to Calendar Adjustment

May 7, 2025 — Millions of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries across the United States will receive two payments in May 2025, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The double payment is the result of a standard calendar adjustment, as June 1 falls on a Sunday this year.

Under SSA policy, when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are issued on the last business day of the previous month. In this case, the June payment will be advanced to Friday, May 30.

As a result, SSI beneficiaries will see two deposits in May: the regular monthly payment on May 1, and the advance June payment on May 30. This adjustment does not increase benefit amounts—it simply shifts the June payment date earlier.

For 2025, the updated base SSI amounts, reflecting a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment, are $967 for individual recipients and $1,450 for couples.

Which Months Are Affected?

This type of calendar adjustment will also occur in several other months in 2025:

May: Payment for May + Advance payment for June (June 1 falls on Sunday)
August: Payment for August + Advance payment for September (September 1 is Labor Day)
October: Payment for October + Advance payment for November (November 1 falls on Saturday)
December: Payment for December + Advance payment for January 2026 (January 1 is New Year’s Day)

Correspondingly, no SSI payments will be made in June, September, November, or January 2026, as those payments were already deposited in the prior month.

An SSA spokesperson emphasized that this is a routine occurrence based on the calendar. “This double payment does not represent an increase in benefits, but rather a readjustment of dates due to weekends and holidays,” the official explained.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

The SSA encourages beneficiaries to review their my Social Security account to verify payment dates and amounts. Questions can also be directed to the SSA hotline at 1-800-772-1213 for further assistance.

The SSI program currently serves more than 7.4 million Americans, providing critical financial support to individuals who are elderly, blind, or disabled with limited income and resources.

Beneficiaries should plan their budgets accordingly, since no additional deposit will arrive in June despite receiving two payments in May.
