Disability benefits offer crucial financial assistance for those with eligible disabilities. Important updates are coming for those who depend on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in November and December 2024.
Extra Payment for SSI Recipients Arriving on Black Friday
There’s an important update for those receiving SSI. Recipients of the regular SSI payment will receive an additional payment on November 29, 2024, which was initially set for December 1, following the earlier issuance in November. The Social Security Administration (SSA) will release this payment early since December 1 is a Sunday, preventing any delays from the closure of SSA offices and banks.
Upcoming SSDI Payments
Recipients of Disability Insurance awaiting their SSDI payments should note two important payment dates coming up in November:
November 20, 2024: For those born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
November 27, 2024: For those born between the 21st and 31st.
Individuals receiving SSDI payments prior to May 1997, or those who also have SSI benefits will see their payment on December 3, 2024.
Increased SSDI Benefits

Most SSDI recipients are unlikely to receive the maximum payment of $3,822. However, individuals who have worked for 35 years, contributed to Social Security at the taxable maximum, and meet the SSA’s other criteria may be eligible for this higher amount. The typical SSDI payment is around $1,542.
When Your SSDI Payment Falls Short
If your SSDI payment is low, you might want to look into applying for SSI, since it’s possible to receive both SSDI and SSI payments at the same time. SSI can help increase your monthly financial support.
