Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, released in 2018, was a critical and commercial success and left audiences eager for a sequel. The long-awaited sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will finally swing into theaters in June 2023 after being delayed several times (it was initially rumored to be released in 2022).
More than that, actually. A March 2024 release date has also been set for a third Spider-Man film, titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also has a brand-new trailer for us to enjoy. It even makes fun of Tom Holland’s rendition of Spider-Man in a subtle way. There’s a lot to learn about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse before it’s released in June, but we’ve got you covered.
When Will Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse Be Released in Theaters?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was supposed to come out in theaters on April 8, 2022. However, it was pushed back to October 7, 2022.
Now, the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will come out on June 2, 2023. Nick Kondo, an animator, said that work on the second movie started on June 9, 2020, so it looks like the June 2023 release date is still on track.
Producer Chris Miller has been giving us hints about what to expect: “The work being done on the next Spider-Verse movie to create new, groundbreaking art techniques is already blowing me away.” It will make the first movie seem old-fashioned.”
It’s all meant to “wow you every time you enter a new environment and make sure the style of the movie fits the story.” Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will come out on March 29, 2024. This date has been set in stone.
Spider-man Across the Spider-verse Cast: Who Will Return for Spider-verse 2?
Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld will play Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy again, and they won’t be the only stars from the first movie to come back for the second.
As the teaser trailer showed, Oscar Isaac will be back as Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099. He was in the after-credit scene of the first movie.
Luna Lauren Vélez has also confirmed that she will be back as Miles’s mother Rio. Brian Tyree Henry will be back as Miles’s father, Jefferson Davis. In July 2021, Jake Johnson said he would be back as Miles’s mentor, Peter B. Parker. Issa Rae plays Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman, in the second movie.
The Spot, a bad guy who has portals all over his body, will be voiced by Jason Schwartzman. In the sequel, Daniel Kaluuya will do the voice of Hobart “Hobie” Brown, also known as “Spider-Punk.” Shea Whigham will do the voice of George Stacy, and Jorma Taccone will do the voice of the Vulture.
Karan Soni, who was in Deadpool, joins the cast as Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man India. He is a version of Spider-Man from a different universe. There had been hints that Kathryn Hahn could return as Doc Ock in a bigger role. But she hasn’t been added to any cast lists or made public yet.
Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse Plot: What Should We Expect?
According to the movie’s official plot summary, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” follows:
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
Director Kemp Powers (Soul) recently revealed the identity of the film’s formidable antagonist; it’s an unexpected choice. A lesser-known B-lister named The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) will pose a serious threat, rather than a well-known villain like Green Goblin or Doc Ock, because of his seamless access to the multiverse.
In addition, we anticipate seeing a large cast of unique personalities. The creative team behind The LEGO Movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, have confirmed that the film will feature a whopping 240 characters and take place in six different universes, making it an ambitious project on par with something like Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The film’s massive scale has been a hot topic of discussion. Justin Thompson, the film’s co-director, affirmed Lord and Miller’s prediction by saying:
“The exact number? Oh boy, we kept adding, like all the way up until the very end. Honestly, I’m gonna be level with you, we just finished the film, like in the last two weeks, and I don’t think I’ve had time to pause and actually take a final count.
But I think it was about 280 the last time I looked in. Just to be clear, that doesn’t mean specific, unique characters that you might recognize, it might mean variations as well. But if you’re just talking about named characters, then I think there’s probably about 95.”
Conclusion
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in June 2023 and a third film, titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will be released in March 2024. The film will feature 240 characters and take place in six different universes, making it an ambitious project on par with Avengers: Endgame. The film’s massive scale has been a hot topic of discussion.
