South Dakota Man Brutally Assaulted Woman and Kidnapped Her; Arrested and Slapped with Charges: Police

A man has been arrested following the reported kidnapping of a woman in Sioux Falls.

Edgar Segura, 30, from Sioux Falls, has been taken into custody and faces charges of Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, and second-degree Attempted Rape.

Sioux Falls Police report that the incident started on Wednesday night at approximately 11 p.m.

A woman, aged 47, was strolling close to the intersection of 13th Street and Elmwood Avenue in western Sioux Falls when a car approached her.

A woman was grabbed and assaulted by someone from the vehicle. Court documents reveal that the suspect possessed a firearm.

A woman was compelled to enter a vehicle and subsequently found herself in an apartment.

A woman was confined in an apartment and later transported to a location close to Clear Lake Township in Minnehaha County.

Deputies from the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities did not disclose the identity of the person who contacted them.

Sioux Falls Police have taken over the investigation after uncovering the crime’s origins.

There was sufficient probable cause to take Segura into custody. Authorities took him into custody on the 800 block of S. Lake Avenue at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Authorities indicated that the investigation is still in its initial stages, and they have not yet determined the link between Segura and the victim, nor whether others were involved.
