Shoplifting Spree Items Recovered After Cops Pulled Over Car Full of Drugs and Stolen Items in New York City

New York City, NY: Three migrants residing in Manhattan’s Roosevelt Hotel were arrested for a theft spree in New Jersey, stealing clothes, perfume, and other items valued at $5,300, according to police.

Three individuals, Dugleidy Gonzalez-Riera, 28, Yefferson Prieto-Galviz, 23, and Morelis Blanco-Cineros, 41, were apprehended following a traffic check in Wayne, New Jersey on Valentine’s Day. Police discovered a vehicle containing narcotics and stolen merchandise from multiple retail establishments.

“During a search of their persons and the vehicle, ecstasy pills, drug paraphernalia, and a significant amount of stolen merchandise were found, including clothing, shoes, and fragrances from Ulta, Kohl’s, JC Penney, and Macy’s, totaling over $5,300 in value,” stated WPD Detective Captain Dan Daly.

Police officers in Wayne stopped a car for tailgating another vehicle and observed one of the occupants without wearing a seat belt.

Police stated that none of the three individuals inside the vehicle could present a driver’s license, speak English, and the license plate was determined to be registered to a different vehicle.

Officers observed drug paraphernalia and noted multiple apparel items from Ulta Beauty shop, a typical target for thieves, still with the store tags attached.

The police reached out to the retailer, which verified that clothing items similar to those found in the vehicle had been taken in the past two hours and gave photographs of the perpetrators. The culprits were subsequently arrested.

They first provided law enforcement with aliases before their true identities were revealed. Each suspect faced charges for receiving stolen property, possessing a controlled hazardous narcotic, having drug paraphernalia, and theft.

Prieto-Galviz and Blanco-Cineros were also accused with obstructing apprehension. All three resided at the Roosevelt Hotel, which currently functions as a migrant shelter in Midtown Manhattan.

The police detained the suspected thieves in Passaic County Jail due to concerns that they would flee while on bond. They are awaiting detention hearings.

Last June, New York City rented the Roosevelt Hotel from Pakistan for $220 million for three years to use as a shelter due to a large number of migrants arriving from the southern border.

Asylum seekers are overcrowding the 1,000-room shelter, leading some migrants to sleep on the ground and in automobiles parked outside. Dozens of arrests have occurred at the formerly famed hotel since the migrants took up residence.
