When officers stopped a car for violating a vehicle code, they uncovered an unexpected find, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The event happened in downtown San Jose, near the intersection of N. Market and W. Santa Clara streets, at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday.
According to SJPD, following the traffic stop, authorities found the driver was not the registered owner of the vehicle and lacked a license. The passenger was on probation for prior firearm charges, according to the police.
A loaded firearm, 21 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and other drugs were found during a car search, according to the police.
According to San Jose Police, the motorist was charged with multiple firearm-related offenses and put into the Santa Clara County Jail. In addition, several firearm infractions, drug possession, resisting arrest, and probation breaches led to the passenger’s arrest and booking.
San Jose police praised the arrests on social media, writing, “Central Division Officers’ prompt action prevented violence and removed a loaded gun and drugs from circulation.” This is an example of proactive policing.
