The Dunn County road superintendent and his wife, a well-known local photographer, have been taken into custody on charges of gross sexual imposition and child abuse.
On Friday, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) conducted the arrests, with assistance from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department.
David Lym is currently facing several legal charges, including two counts of Gross Sexual Imposition and one count of Tampering with a Witness. The Gross Sexual Imposition charges are considered to be very serious offenses in North Dakota, carrying the potential for up to 20 years in prison and significant fines.
The charge of Tampering with a Witness is classified as a Class C felony, carrying a potential punishment of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. If found guilty of the sexual offenses, David Lym could potentially be obligated to register as a sex offender for a minimum of 15 years, and there is a chance that he may have to register for life.
Karolina Lym is currently facing several charges, which include two counts of Child Abuse and two counts of Tampering. One count of Tampering is for allegedly trying to coerce an informant, while the other count is for attempting the same with a witness.

If Karolina Lym is found guilty, she may be subject to charges classified as Class C felonies under North Dakota law. As part of her sentencing, the court may also require her to undergo parental aptness evaluations, mental health assessments, and anger management programs.
A preliminary hearing for both has been scheduled for September 19th at the Stark County Courthouse.
Dunn County Sheriff Gary Kuhn has announced that the case has been referred to BCI to avoid any potential conflict of interest. “There was a disagreement within our office,” he explained. “It’s a challenging situation as it pertains to one of our team members.” We’re not getting involved, but I have confidence that BCI will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
