Pregnant Georgia Woman Arrested for Toddler’s Death, Ending Multiday Search in New York

Honk News (Rockdale County, GA) – A woman expecting a child from Georgia has been accused of killing her 1-year-old son and subsequently fleeing, leading to an extensive search that concluded with her apprehension by U.S. Marshals in New York, as reported by law enforcement authorities. Officials were urgently searching for the 23-year-old mother, concerned for her safety and that of her unborn child.

“We have a small child that has lost its life in the hands of its mother and we would like to get this mother in custody because she is currently carrying another child right now,” Rockdale County Sheriff’s investigator Grote Levett said before Gloria Wright’s arrest this weekend.

On Saturday, the sheriff’s office revealed in a press release that Wright was apprehended in Rochester, New York, by the U.S. Marshals. Authorities allege that she is facing serious charges, including first-degree murder and cruelty to children, following the tragic death of her 1-year-old son on January 8.

“We would like to get her in custody for her safety and for the safety of that child,” Levett said Saturday.

Authorities report that Wright reportedly escaped to New York following the fatal incident involving her son, who suffered blunt force trauma to the head. According to the arrest warrant, a conversation with the medical examiner involved in the autopsy revealed that the severe skull fractures were not caused by an accidental fall or drop, as reported by WSB.

No information has been provided regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death or Wright’s activities in the Empire State. On January 8, she reportedly communicated with an investigator regarding her child’s death, as per WSB, yet she was not taken into custody on that day.

“On January 8, 2025, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to a person not breathing call,” officials said in a Jan. 15 press release. “Upon arrival, officers discovered the individual was a 1-year-old child. Despite Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attempts to resuscitate the child, the child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

Authorities noted that Wright has a facial tattoo and previously lived in Newton County, Henry County, and Rockdale, Georgia. A $5,000 reward has been announced for information leading to her capture, with the public encouraged to assist in the search for Wright.

“The fugitive Gloria Wright has been located and taken into custody,” Rockdale police officials said Saturday. “The arrest was made possible with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals. We sincerely appreciate the public’s ongoing support and assistance throughout this investigation.”
