Hernando County, FL – A woman in Florida has been arrested following an incident in which she repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend’s pit bull, as reported by local authorities.
Megan Lynn Mileskiewicz, 23, faces charges of torturing or inflicting pain on an animal, causing serious injury, and resisting arrest, as per Hernando County jail records.
A press release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office states that the incident reportedly took place on Dec. 29.
At approximately 10:42 a.m., a call was made to 911 reporting a woman who was allegedly “repeatedly stabbing her live-in boyfriend’s dog inside the home,” as stated in the press release.
Deputies who responded reportedly encountered multiple witnesses. A situation unfolded at a home on Rusk Circle in Spring Hill, a sizable area recognized by the census, nestled within Florida’s Nature Coast and integrated into the larger Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan region.
According to deputies, the incident reportedly took place in the presence of several family members and a family friend.
Witnesses subsequently guided deputies to the back of the residence. According to witnesses, Mileskiewicz escaped through the back door.
The chase reportedly did not last long.
“Deputies quickly located Mileskiewicz hiding behind a tool shed in the backyard, face down on the ground surrounded by some shrubbery,” the press release reads. “When Mileskiewicz refused to comply with verbal commands to crawl out of the bushes, deputies physically removed her from her hiding spot and took her into custody.”
Authorities reported that the canine was a two-year-old male who sustained two separate cuts. The injuries were reported to be “around 2 to 3 inches in length close to his rear.”
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the dog’s injuries were not life-threatening. According to deputies, the injuries were “actively bleeding” upon the arrival of law enforcement.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mileskiewicz reportedly acknowledged responsibility when questioned about the attack.
The accused, following the reading of their rights, reportedly informed authorities that the pit bull was “disturbing” her and that she felt “frustrated.”
Nonetheless, at least one witness provided a differing perspective on that account.
“A witness advised Mileskiewicz, without warning, became angry at the dog and armed herself with a pocketknife and began attempting to stab the dog,” the press release goes on. “Upon seeing Mileskiewicz repeatedly stab at the dog, the witness called 9-1-1.”
A detailed probable cause affidavit acquired by Law&Crime expands on the account given by one witness:
In her ongoing explanation regarding the violent incident, Mileskiewicz reportedly admitted to investigators that she “made a mistake.”
The court document identifies the injured canine as “dog.”
Mileskiewicz is presently held at the Hernando County Detention Center, according to jail records. The amount for her bail has been established at $3,500. Court records indicate that she has sought a public defender due to her financial situation.
The individual is scheduled to be present in court for her arraignment on January 28.
