Pit Bull Mauls Man After Dog Fight; Owner Resists Animal Control in Florida after Dog Left Man in Severe Condition

Honk News (Panama City Beach, FL) – A man was hospitalized following an attack by a neighbor’s dog on Tuesday, as reported by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at a serious medical emergency at 8115 Laird St. around 5 p.m. Upon arrival, responders discovered Michael Fabjon Jr., 49, on the ground, bloodied. Pamela Dennis, 56, administered CPR on him. A deputy evaluated Fabjon and initiated life-saving actions, including CPR.

Emergency medical services responded, and Fabjon was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that Dennis informed deputies about an altercation between Fabjon’s dog and a neighbor’s pit bull named Gunner. Dennis and Fabjon successfully intervened in the altercation, while Gunner fled the scene.

Gunner came back and started to assault Fabjon, according to Dennis. Gunner tackled Fabjon and started to bite his neck while shaking his head aggressively.

A 44-year-old neighbor, Carrie Swisher, stepped outside to call Gunner back into her home.

A deputy and Animal Control attempted to retrieve a dog, but the owner, Brendan Murphy, 28, refused to let them in and barricaded himself inside.

Murphy faces arrest for resisting without violence and obstruction. He was transported to the Bay County Jail smoothly.

A deputy’s report states that Murphy said Gunner went home after the fight and did not return. Murphy stated that Fabjon’s dog was the one that attacked him, noting that the dogs have a history of conflicts.

According to BCSO, the blood found on Gunner matched the attack more closely than that on the other dog, and witnesses identified Gunner as the one involved.

The BCSO confirmed in a phone interview with the News Herald that Murphy and Fabjon reside in different buildings on the same property along with their dogs. The Sheriff’s Office explained that Gunner may have attacked Fabjon because he was putting his dog away when Gunner came back after the altercation.

BCSO reported that Fabjon was in the ICU on Wednesday due to throat and neck injuries sustained in the attack.
