The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas is looking into the Jan. 8, 2024, killings of retired judge Alfred “Burt” Carnes and his wife Susan at their home outside of Georgetown. After a fight over a sleeping pill, their son Seth Carnes is accused of killing them.

In connection with the 74-year-old deaths of Alfred “Burt” Carnes and Susan H. Carnes, Seth B. Carnes is charged with capital murder.

On Monday night, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call regarding a shooting that occurred in the Georgetown area in the 300 block of County Road 317. In a press release, deputies stated that they observed 45-year-old Seth Carnes leave the house. He claimed to have shot his parents and informed deputies so. Upon entering, deputies discovered that Alfred and Susan Carnes had died from gunshot injuries.

Seth Carnes was taken to the Williamson County Jail by police, where he is currently being held without bond. He might get the death penalty or life in prison if found guilty. Investigators think that “family violence and death” resulted from an argument.
