After a child of three years old sustained significant injuries, two individuals from Marion County are being charged with the crime.
On Friday, Shantela Diejuste, who is 37 years old, and Leon Garner, who is 35 years old, were taken into custody and charged with unlawfully placing a kid in danger, causing harm to a child, or deliberately abandoning a child.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made as a result of an investigation that took place around July 3, when a youngster was found to have suffered many severe internal injuries in addition to a head wound.
According to the sheriff’s office, the two individuals were legal guardians of the child at the time.
After being taken into custody, the youngster is now under the supervision of the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
A bond hearing is scheduled to take place for Diejuste and Garner, who are currently being held at the Marion County Detention Center.
