One Dead, Another Injured in Pickaway County Crash After Vehicle Hits Tree

PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio – An 18-year-old woman from Lockbourne was killed and another woman injured after a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night in Scioto Township, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were alerted to the crash at 11:45 p.m. on November 18 when the 911 communications center received an iPhone crash detection alert near the intersection of Welch and Lane Roads. Moments later, a caller confirmed a vehicle had gone off the road.

Details of the Crash

Responding deputies discovered a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta that had slid off the right side of Welch Road, traveled through wet grass, and struck a tree near Lane Road.

The driver, Kyla Caudy, 18, of Lockbourne, was taken to Mount Carmel Grove City Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Officials said Caudy graduated earlier this year from Teays Valley High School, whose district spokesperson confirmed her recent graduation.

A 19-year-old passenger from Orient suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.

Response and Investigation

Emergency crews from multiple agencies—including Scioto Township Fire and EMS, Jackson Township Fire and EMS, Commercial Point Police, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol—assisted at the scene.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Officials have not indicated whether road conditions, speed, or other factors contributed to the incident.

Community members and classmates have expressed grief over Caudy’s death, remembering her as a bright and kind-hearted young woman with a promising future.
