Honk News (Tulsa, OK) – A woman from Oklahoma is facing legal repercussions for allegedly delaying medical care for her critically injured infant, who ultimately passed away.
Savawna Bowen, 23, was taken into custody on January 3, nearly one year following the tragic death of her 4-month-old son, who reportedly suffered injuries inflicted by his father. A 23-year-old man, Daquan White, faces charges of murder and child abuse in connection with the case involving his infant.
An inquiry into Bowen has uncovered claims that she was aware her son was injured and required medical attention but did not pursue it. Instead, she reportedly looked up different medical issues online before ultimately bringing her baby to the hospital. Prosecutors allege that the infant passed away on January 11, 2024.
A local CBS affiliate has obtained an affidavit revealing that Bowen entrusted her two young children, a 4-month-old and a 2-year-old, to White while she spent time with her boyfriend. Upon her return, she allegedly inquired with White regarding a red spot on the baby’s leg.
He reportedly informed Bowen that upon raising the baby’s leg, he perceived a popping noise. The document states that Bowen reportedly departed for an additional eight hours to socialize with friends.
Upon her return, she noticed her baby was wailing in distress. White reportedly confessed to inserting his fingers into the infant’s mouth and applying pressure to silence the baby’s cries. Following the seizure, the affidavit revealed that White purportedly instructed Bowen to delay taking the baby to the hospital and to fabricate a story regarding the injury to the baby’s leg.
A recent report detailed a sequence of occurrences as presented in the affidavit: On January 3, 2024, Bowen conducted a search for “popped leg.” On January 4, she looked up “baby’s femur is sticking out.” Just a few days later, on January 7, she looked up “baby not able to move mouth” and “mouth swollen.”
On January 8, she made the decision to take the baby to the hospital. Authorities reported that the infant passed away on January 11 as a result of multiple injuries, including a fractured jaw, broken ribs, a broken femur, and significant brain trauma.
Bowen faces a felony child neglect charge and has been taken into custody at the Tulsa County Jail. She secured her release by posting a bond of $10,000.
