A Wyandotte couple facing allegations of neglect and abuse towards their adopted son, who has mental disabilities, is set to appear in court next week.
Recent court documents reveal that Jennifer Enyart, 44, along with her husband Keith, 52, is currently in federal custody facing charges related to child neglect in Indian County. Jennifer is now facing a new allegation of assault involving a dangerous weapon, accused of using a stun gun on the genitals of her 15-year-old adopted son, who has mental disabilities, with the intent to cause bodily harm.
Medical reports indicate that multiple injuries sustained by the child align with the application of a “taser or stun gun,” according to court documents. The medical report determined that the teen’s injuries were “probably due to child abuse.”
Keith is currently detained at the Tulsa County jail, while Jennifer is said to be in custody at the Okmulgee County jail. A correctional staff member refrained from verifying details regarding Jennifer Enyart, stating, “she felt uneasy about disclosing information.” In response to inquiries under the Oklahoma Open Records Act, she stated that the jail’s computer system was experiencing issues and was unable to provide any information verifying Enyart’s presence in the Okmulgee jail.
The pair is set to appear in court on November 26 for initial and detention proceedings.
On Wednesday, they made their appearance in Federal Court in Tulsa, where a 6-page federal criminal complaint and arrest affidavit were revealed, and the hearings were scheduled.
Jennifer Enyart serves as a Special Education teacher at Wyandotte. Officials announced that she has been placed on administrative leave.
“On September 3, 2024, after learning of allegations against Mrs. Enyart, she was placed on administrative leave. The district has and will continue to cooperate with all investigating agencies. The school is working with its legal counsel to determine its next actions regarding Mrs. Enyart’s employment,” said Brad Wade, Wyandotte Schools Superintendent.
