Ohio Man Slammed 1-year-old Baby Girl on Floor to make Her Stop Crying; Arrested after Baby Died from Abuse

A man from Ohio reportedly confessed to violently shaking and slamming a 1-year-old baby’s head against the floor after she continued to cry, resulting in the baby’s death weeks afterward.

On December 11, authorities took Michael Mayor, 34, into custody after an incident on December 5 resulted in a baby girl suffering a skull fracture, injuries he reportedly confessed to inflicting during police questioning. He faced an initial indictment on six serious charges, which included assault and putting a child at risk.

On December 20, court documents acquired by Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO reveal that the infant passed away “as a result of the injuries inflicted upon her by” the Mayor.

At 3:12 p.m. on December 5, an incident involving a baby was reported, during which the wife of the Mayor, known for offering babysitting services in the Dayton area, was said to be caring for the young girl. The babysitter, under the impression that the baby was asleep, allegedly observed that the infant was breathing yet unresponsive. Piqua police reports indicate that she informed dispatchers that the toddler appeared “pale, had bruises on her head, and she was uncertain about their origin.”

A young girl was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where medical professionals identified a fracture at the back of her skull, a subdural hematoma, and other intricate injuries resulting from a significant impact.

On the morning of Dec. 5, the babysitter reportedly left the toddler in the care of the Mayor while she took other children to school. Upon her return, he allegedly stated that he had placed the young girl down for a nap on the bedroom floor, according to police reports. However, by 3 p.m., after several checks, the babysitter realized that the toddler remained asleep. In that moment, she dialed emergency services.

After being alone with the toddler, authorities began investigating the Mayor and concluded, in collaboration with prosecutors, that he ought to face charges for assaulting the girl.

The police report reveals that the Mayor reportedly stated he ‘shook’ her, and when her cries grew louder, he proceeded to ‘slam’ her onto the bedroom floor. He mentioned that this was not performed on the blankets, and he repeated this several times until she ceased crying.

Following the reported incident, the Mayor is said to have claimed that he believed the girl had dozed off and left her on the ground.

The mayor was apprehended on December 11 and is currently detained with a bond set at $1 million. No new charges have been brought against him since the documents submitted on December 20, which referenced the infant’s passing. Court records indicate that the Mayor is scheduled for a bond modification hearing on January 2.
