According to authorities, a father in Ohio shot his 24-year-old daughter with a pistol following an argument about smoking in the house. He subsequently showed no remorse for his actions when he was interviewed by the police.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Thompson, 64, of Sycamore Township, was discovered walking around a block away from his house with the murder weapon in his pocket after the shooting that occurred early Monday morning.
He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Rebecca Thompson, his daughter, was discovered by her 18-year-old sister with a gunshot wound that proved to be fatal. This occurred after Thompson allegedly shot at her multiple times.
“If he’s willing to do this to his own daughter, we’re very concerned about what he’d be willing to do to a stranger if he were to be released,” prosecutors said Tuesday during Thompson’s first court appearance, according to WLWT.
According to neighbors, Thompson is a “nice guy” who has never been known to act violently. According to the police report, authorities state that he had a “recent brain operation” that has left “lasting issues,” but it is not apparent what those concerns are.
Prosecutors claim that Thompson and his daughter were involved in a dispute that “apparently revolved around smoking in the house” when he began shooting at her at approximately 1 a.m. on Monday. It is not obvious who was smoking.
According to the arrest complaint, “Thomson was subsequently interviewed by sheriff’s detectives and admitted to shooting his daughter several times during a verbal interaction.”
According to reports, Thompson resided with the victim and her sister in a house located on the 12000 block of 6th Street in Sycamore Township, which is a suburb of Cincinnati.
“Just a normal family,” neighbor Edgar Martinez stated. “This is sad.”
Another neighbor, Vidalinda Roblero, observed, “He was extremely good … He greeted the family when we moved here to live.
Thompson has a record of minor traffic violations, a 2023 arrest for trespassing at a Kroger grocery store, and a 2003 charge for stealing cable television, according to online court records.
His wife divorced him in 2016 and accused him of abuse, although he was never arrested for any incidents of domestic violence.
On Tuesday, Thompson was ordered to be jailed on a $1 million bail as he waits for his next court date. The date for the grand jury has been scheduled for February 6.
