A middle school educator in North Texas has been taken into custody this week for alleged sexual offenses related to a former student, according to local law enforcement.
Angela Barnes, 45, faces allegations of sexual assault of a child and maintaining an improper relationship with a student, as stated in a press release from the Keller Police Department on Monday.
The accused works as an educator at Carroll Middle School, located in a wealthy and upscale area near Fort Worth and the more distant Dallas. The city mainly resides in Tarrant County, with minor areas reaching into Denton County to the north. Keller is a comparably affluent neighborhood — situated directly to the west.
Authorities reported that Barnes was taken into custody on Monday, following a month-long investigation that concluded without any issues. Authorities responded to claims regarding the teacher’s alleged “inappropriate relationship with a former student who was underage” during the previous summer break, according to police reports.
“Authorities launched an investigation right away and found that Barnes had been involved in a sexual relationship with a minor during June and July 2024, which has since concluded,” stated the police department.
Information regarding the accusations is presently limited.
School officials, however, quickly responded to the situation.
The Carroll Independent School District shared a detailed overview of their response in a statement to the Dallas Fox affiliate KDFW.
Authorities indicate that no further victims are thought to exist, but they are encouraging the community to share any pertinent details.
The individual was taken into custody and processed at the Keller Regional Jail following her arrest.
