North Dakota Teacher Accused of Abusing 7-Year-Old Student; Slammed Kid in Head after Pushing in Room: Victim

An individual who once worked as a special education teacher at Wilkinson Elementary School in Williston has been charged with child abuse.

In the records filed with the court, it was said that Erin Hurley had taken a youngster who was seven years old by the collar and shoved them into another room back in November. Since the beginning of this year, Institutional Child Protection Services has been conducting an investigation into this occurrence after receiving a notification of suspected abuse.

According to the police, camera evidence demonstrates that Hurley also locked the student into another room and placed a chair in front of it to keep them there. Hurley also turns the lights on and off multiple times throughout the night.

As a result of being placed on administrative leave, Hurley tendered his resignation in February.

The student who said that Hurley threw them into the room and then slammed them in the head provided an additional piece of evidence to support the occurrence. Additionally, the police reported that they conducted an interview with a paraprofessional who was there at the time. The paraprofessional stated that the incident went “too far” and caused them to feel uncomfortable.

A conviction could result in a sentence of up to ten years in prison for Hurley. On Thursday, there will be a hearing regarding the bond.
