A Cleveland Browns defensive end, Lonnie Phelps, is currently facing a charge of drunken driving in South Florida. According to police, he allegedly crashed an SUV into a Key West restaurant on Wednesday night.
Phelps, a resident of Cincinnati, was taken into custody and placed in the Monroe County jail shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, as indicated by online records.
The Key West Police Department reported that a 23-year-old individual crashed into the Red Shoe Island Bistro located at 411 Petronia St.
According to a post on the KWPD Facebook page, both the building and the vehicle sustained significant damage, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
An image included in the post reveals a significant opening on the side of the restaurant.

Fortunately, there were no injuries caused by the car that crashed into our restaurant this evening. Thankfully, we were closed,” the post reads. “It could have been much worse…”It seemed like there was some divine intervention watching over us all.
According to online records, Phelps is still being held at the Key West jail facility of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as of around noon on Thursday as per ClickOrlando.
He is being charged with a misdemeanor for driving under the influence and causing damage to property.
Phelps joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2023, following his college football career at Ohio’s Miami University and the University of Kansas.
He has yet to make an appearance in a game, despite being on the team’s practice squad.
