New York Teen Charged with Manslaughter After Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old Girl; Suspect Claims Accidental Discharge

Honk News (New York City, NY) – A 16-year-old boy charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a teenage girl inside a Queens house believes the gun was accidentally fired, according to authorities and sources.

Deaza Barkley, 17, who hoped to one day join the Air Force, was discovered with a deadly gunshot wound to the head inside the Clover Place home in Jamaica shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, according to authorities.

The alleged shooter was apprehended hours later and faces gun possession charges, authorities said Monday.

According to police, the incident may have been an accident.

The boy said authorities he was at his grandfather’s house on the tree-lined quiet street and invited Barkley over while no one else was home, according to law enforcement sources.

According to accounts, he claimed to be playing with the gun when it went off, fatally wounding Barkley. According to authorities, the youngster then called his father, who sent his brother over to investigate what had transpired.

As per the reports, the sibling walked in on the terrible scene and reported it to his father, who subsequently called 911.

When first responders came, Barkley was unconscious and was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she died, according to authorities.
