A former substitute teacher in Omaha has been convicted of felony child abuse after being accused of sexually assaulting a minor.
Court documents reveal that deputies observed a vehicle in which a nude male was seen moving from the back to the front before speeding away without headlights illuminated.
The individual in question is thought to be a 17-year-old victim.
Law enforcement attempted to pursue the SUV but lost track of it as the gravel road sent debris flying. A driver veered off the road and ended up in a nearby field.
The document claims that upon arrival at the scene, deputies found Erin Ward reclining in the back of the vehicle while dressing herself. Ward mentioned that the driver was a student from Omaha Burke High School and also served as a substitute teacher for both Omaha Public Schools and Millard Public Schools.
In statements made during interviews with deputies, court documents reveal that Ward acknowledged engaging in sexual acts with the victim at various locations.
She mentioned that the relationship had been happening for several months and that their encounters were limited to her vehicle.
On Wednesday, Ward entered a no-contest plea regarding felony child abuse, leading to a guilty verdict from the judge.
She could be sentenced to a maximum of three years behind bars and is subject to a bond of $10,000.
