CENTERVILLE, Utah – Traffic on Interstate 15 northbound came to a standstill Tuesday evening after a multi-vehicle crash and vehicle fire shut down several lanes near milepost 319 in Centerville, according to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP).
The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. near 600 South, when three vehicles were involved in a collision that resulted in one car catching fire. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames before the fire spread to nearby vehicles.
Major Traffic Delays After Crash
Authorities said four lanes and both shoulders on northbound I-15 were temporarily closed as firefighters and troopers worked to put out the fire and clear debris. All lanes have since reopened, but officials warn that residual delays are expected to continue into the evening.
“Our troopers and fire teams worked swiftly to get the fire under control and ensure everyone was safely evacuated,” said Sergeant Mike Alexander with the Utah Highway Patrol. “While most people involved sustained only minor injuries, one individual suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.”
Law enforcement officials have not released the identities or conditions of those involved as the investigation remains ongoing.
