An Everett man, aged 51, was apprehended by the police following an incident in Marysville where the parents of a child successfully prevented a kidnapping attempt on Wednesday, according to authorities.
In an incident that occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a man approached an occupied parked car in the 1500 block of 9th Street. He proceeded to open the rear door and made a false claim that the child inside belonged to him. The father, who had just stepped out of the vehicle, forcefully closed the door and firmly pushed the suspect away from his car.
The mother, who remained in the car, secured the vehicle doors. Police report that the suspect made another attempt to gain access to the locked car, persistently asserting that the child belonged to him. A father forcefully pushed the suspect onto the road, prompting the suspect to quickly escape in his own vehicle.
Authorities discovered the individual inside his vehicle approximately half a mile north of the location where the incident occurred.
The man was identified by both the parents and an independent witness.
A suspect has been booked into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of attempted second-degree kidnapping. The child was scared but otherwise unhurt.
