A Texas mother is facing charges for allegedly locking her 12-year-old daughter out of their apartment, resulting in the girl having to sleep on a bench within the complex.
The girl promptly went to a Houston Police Department substation to report the incident early on Sunday morning. According to the police, she informed the officers that her mother had asked her to leave the apartment on Saturday following a disagreement they had about one of her friends visiting.
According to the police, the girl made multiple attempts to reenter the house, but her mother adamantly refused to unlock the door. The child eventually found themselves sleeping on a bench at the apartment complex, only to wake up in the morning and make their way to the police substation.
Police officers arrived at the apartment complex located at 7600 E. Houston Road to conduct an investigation. The girl’s mother, Georgette Albert, 45, was located and interviewed. According to her, the girl had run away. Following the realization that the statement was false, law enforcement officials apprehended her on Monday for the offense of endangering a child.
The police reached out to Child Protective Services, who then took custody of the girl and released her to a family member.
Albert went to the Harris County Jail and has since posted a $5,000 bond. According to her financial affidavit, she works as a part-time teacher in the Houston Independent School District. According to the information provided, she had been employed there for approximately one year. According to the documents, she hails from Louisiana.
The school system informed Law&Crime via email that Albert is not a full-time teacher, but rather a contract employee who works part-time for the district. They also mentioned that they are currently in the process of terminating his contract.
