Honk News (Detroit, MI) – A 41-year-old woman is in custody, facing extradition to Michigan following allegations that she took the life of her 9-year-old son and concealed his body in a shallow grave, subsequently fleeing the state with her other child.
On January 6, Detroit police responded to a residence in the 19700 block of Woodingham after a landlord made a shocking discovery of a shallow grave in the backyard.
“Upon arrival, the police were shown that grave where a human foot was sticking out of the ground,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy told reporters.
She mentioned that his hands and feet were also tied up.

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the child as 9-year-old Zamar King III. Authorities later concluded that his mother, Brandee Katrice Pierce, 41, took his life on Oct. 24.
Authorities in Michigan have reported that the medical examiner determined the cause of the child’s death to be smothering and neck compression. Approximately two weeks following the murder, Pierce left Michigan and relocated to Georgia, where she was apprehended on unrelated charges on December 20.
A police report obtained by the Detroit Free Press reveals that a worried citizen contacted authorities in Brookhaven, a suburb of Atlanta, upon noticing a 3-year-old boy left unattended in a vehicle. Authorities arrived on the scene and found the boy, who felt chilly (with temperatures in the 40s that day) but was otherwise safe.

Authorities observed human waste in the rear seat alongside a flattened air mattress, according to the reported complaint. Pierce revealed that she and the boy had been residing in their vehicle, and she had been donating plasma to earn some income. A woman has been taken into custody on charges related to child cruelty, while the child has been moved to a foster care arrangement.
Pierce was released from jail, but Georgia authorities took her into custody for the murder case on January 10, as reported by Detroit police. She faces serious charges including first-degree murder, felony murder, first-degree child abuse, tampering with evidence, and concealing an individual’s death. Pierce is currently held at the Cobb County Jail, pending extradition to Michigan.
Worthy refrained from offering any guesses regarding a possible motive. She described the case as remarkable.
“I have been a prosecutor for a long time, and I often say that I have seen it all,” she said in a press release. “The horrors of this child abuse case defy that. The alleged actions of the defendant are among the most callous I have seen and hope never to see again.”
