Missouri Teacher Arrested after Massive Stash of Child Porn Busted on His Laptop after School Staff Noticed Suspicious Activity

Honk News (Independence, MO) –  A Truman High School teacher was placed on administrative leave amid the ongoing criminal investigation, according to the Independence School District announcement.

Shortly thereafter, authorities from Independence Police and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Austin Meyer, identified as a drama teacher at Truman High School, faces 11 charges related to the possession of child pornography.

Legal filings reported that a malware virus notification was received by the information technology staff of the state district regarding a school-issued laptop assigned to Meyer. Staff investigating the malware reportedly uncovered 11 gigabytes of pornographic material on the device, including explicit images and videos that seemed to involve underaged girls.

“We want to reassure you that there is no danger or threat to student safety, and there is no current evidence linking any ISD students to the allegations,” a district spokesperson said in a statement to families.

“It is vital we protect the most vulnerable members of our community, especially children,” said Prosecutor Melesa Johnson. “When someone abuses their position of trust and authority, my office is committed to acting swiftly to hold them accountable.”

Meyer remains behind bars, with a cash bond set at $100,000.
