Missing 4-year-old Autistic Boy found Dead in Ormond Beach; Family Devastated after Boy Disappeared in Park

Tragic Discovery: Toddler with Autism Found Deceased in Florida Park

Officials in Florida report that a young boy with autism has tragically been discovered deceased just hours after going missing during a family outing at a nearby park.

On Sunday, Nov. 17, the Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) reported the discovery of the body of 4-year-old Waylon Childs in Central Park, close to Fleming Avenue in Ormond Beach.

Authorities reported that the young boy was at the park with his dad and two siblings, both also under five years old, around midday when he went missing.

Authorities reported that a dive team discovered the boy’s body at approximately 9 p.m. local time on November 17.

According to Ormond Beach police public information officer Pauline Dulang, authorities do not believe there was any foul play involved in Waylon’s death, as stated during a press conference broadcast by NBC affiliate WESH. Authorities indicated that the child was also unable to speak, as per the report.

Dulang did not disclose the circumstances under which the boy entered the water. She emphasized that this is the moment for unity within the community.

“It’s just an unfortunate day and a tragic case today,” Dulang told reporters.

According to the OBPD, the search for Waylon involved collaboration among the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, and local law enforcement from nearby cities.

“We pulled out as many stops as we possibly could,” Dulang said at the press conference. “We had eyes in the air, eyes on the ground and eyes in the water.”

Police Chief Jesse Godfrey expressed gratitude to the community and all agencies that participated in the search for Waylon, acknowledging their support and efforts.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our hearts are with Waylon’s family during this unimaginable loss,” Godfrey said.

The chief emphasized that the department is dedicated to supporting the family and the community in the times to come.
