An ex-Abilene ISD educator has been taken into custody for reportedly being involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student.
A 54-year-old man named Lawrence Brandt Grigg was arrested by the Abilene Police Department on Wednesday. The arrest was made on a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and student, as stated in a police media release.
He is currently in custody at the Taylor County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
It is important to remember that individuals who are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
In late July, the police launched an investigation after receiving a report from Abilene ISD about a potential relationship between Grigg and a former student, as stated in an APD press release.
As a result of the investigation, authorities were able to collect electronic evidence and other relevant information, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
Based on records from Taylor County Jail, the offense is said to have occurred on Feb. 1.
Following the incident, Grigg was promptly placed on administrative leave by the district to aid in the investigation and prioritize student safety. The press release states that AISD has been actively collaborating with APD investigators.
