Michigan Woman Broke Bones of 14-month-old Baby; Lands in Jail Years Later after Kid Died from Abuse

Honk News (Macomb County, MI) – A woman from Macomb County will spend the rest of her life in prison after the abuse she inflicted on her then-boyfriend’s kid ten years ago resulted in the child’s death.

Hilary Ulp, who is 46 years old, has been incarcerated since 2016 for torturing Nicolas Kuras and fracturing his bones in 2015.

At that time, the boy was 14 months old. Ulp was charged with felony murder in early 2021 when Kuras died at the age of 7.

Ulp was found guilty of felony murder by a jury after a trial that lasted six weeks. On Tuesday, she was given a life sentence without the possibility of release.

“This case is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life and the devastating consequences of abuse. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, who have endured unimaginable pain and loss over the years. We hope this sentence brings some measure of justice and healing to those who loved Nicolas,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido.
