Melbourne Woman Killed in Chain Reaction Crash on Interstate 95; Was Hit by Several Vehicles

A 19-year-old woman was hit by several vehicles after leaving her crashed car on I-95 close to Melbourne, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 19-year-old woman from Melbourne tragically lost her life early Saturday on Interstate 95 in Brevard County. She was hit by several vehicles after getting out of a car she had just collided with a semitruck, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The first collision took place shortly after midnight on the southbound lane of I-95, close to mile marker 188 (Pineda Causeway), according to law enforcement officials.

A report from the FHP indicates that a woman was operating a 2010 Lexus ES 350 at speeds reportedly exceeding the posted limit, allegedly maneuvering through traffic with three passengers: a 16-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl, all hailing from Melbourne.

A woman did not stop for a semitruck in the outside lane, which was driven by a 38-year-old man from Palm Bay, leading to her Lexus colliding with the rear of the semitruck, according to the report. Following the rotation of the Lexus, which ended up partially obstructing the outside lane and shoulder, the semitruck managed to come to a controlled stop as the 19-year-old exited the vehicle, as reported by FHP.

A 32-year-old man from West Palm Beach, driving a 2004 Ford F-150 in the outside lane heading south, could not evade the Lexus. Despite swerving left to avoid a collision, he ended up hitting the rear of the damaged sedan with the right front of his vehicle, according to troopers.

According to FHP, the collision caused the Lexus to spin, hitting the 19-year-old woman, who was subsequently struck by the Ford and thrown into the inner lane. The driver of the Ford made an overcorrection to the right, resulting in the pickup truck veering off the road and colliding with a light pole on its right side, according to the report.

A 2023 Toyota Camry, moving south in the inner lane, collided with the 19-year-old who was lying on the road, as stated in the report. Authorities reported that the operator, a 75-year-old man from Vero Beach, was likewise unable to evade the collision.

A 19-year-old was declared deceased at the location, according to troopers. A report indicates that the 16-year-old boy in the Lexus sustained only minor injuries, and all other parties involved stayed at the scene.

The investigation by FHP is ongoing.
